Chelsea has entered talks with Sporting for the transfer of midfielder Manuel Ugarte. As a result of Sporting’s inability to make the Champions League for the upcoming season, head coach Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that it will be “difficult to keep players like Ugarte” after his contract expires in 2026. Mauricio Pochettino was named as Chelsea’s next manager on Monday, and the club is rumored to be looking to add a custodian, midfielder, and striker in the upcoming summer transfer window. In addition to PSG, the 22-year-old Uruguayan international is sought after.
Chelsea appointed former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach on July 1 on a two-year deal with an extra year’s option. The 51-year-old Argentine, who previously served as the manager of Southampton and Tottenham in the Premier League, has taken over permanently for Graham Potter, who was ousted at the beginning of April after less than seven months in charge. After acting as Chelsea’s temporary manager from the start of the season till the conclusion, Frank Lampard has left the team. Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and other members of the coaching staff will be there with Sebastiano Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.
“There is a lot riding on the selection of the Argentine, for both sides. While Mauricio Pochettino will undoubtedly be thrilled to return to the Premier League and Chelsea will be thrilled to have acquired a manager of his caliber,” Joe Shread said after Manuel Ugarte emerged as a Chelsea target. “It’s uncommon for a manager whose previous Premier League stint ended with his dismissal by Tottenham nearly four years ago that Pochettino still enjoys a very good reputation in the league. One explanation for this would be Spurs’ deterioration following his departure.”
“Pochettino ended his own trophy drought by leading Paris Saint-Germain to Ligue 1 and the French Cup victories in 2021 and 2022, respectively. However, he was also sacked by the French powerhouses in the summer of 2018 and has been jobless since then,” he added.
