Chelsea is closing in on the signing of RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku. The international from France, who can also play in the middle of the field, extended his deal earlier this year by two years, making it valid until 2026. However, it was notable that the renewal included a €60 million (£52.4 million) release clause that will become effective in the summer of 2019.
It is rumored that Chelsea is willing to pay more than the release clause before the summer to sign Christopher Nkunku before other interested teams. Nkunku, who played for Paris Saint-Germain’s program before joining Leipzig in 2019, has eight international appearances and six goals this season in eight Bundesliga games.
Since the start of the previous campaign, only six players—Robert Lewandowski, Erling Haaland, Ciro Immobile, Karim Benzema, Dusan Vlahovic, and Kylian Mbappe—have scored more goals than Nkunku in the top five leagues in Europe. As a result, Nkunku has gained recognition as one of Europe’s greatest athletes, but the 24-year-old offers so much more than simply raw strength. Only Patrik Schick has more fast breaks than the France international, who is now ranked fifth in the Bundesliga for dribbles, winning fouls, and passes made in the final third since the start of the previous campaign.
