Chelsea is closing in on the £35m signing of Benoit Badiashile from Monaco. Two complete caps have been won by the 21-year-old for France. Paul Mitchell, a former head of recruitment for Tottenham, is currently the sporting director of Monaco, who are willing to sell.
“Coaches always rejoice when the transfer window closes,” Monaco head coach Philippe Clement said. “We shall see. Whether they are interested in the club or not depends on the circumstances. The fact that the players are present with their minds is what matters the most to me.”
The 6ft 4in left-sided center-back from France has apparently had attention from West Ham and Sevilla in the past. He has always wanted to play for a Premier League team competing for the Champions League. Graham Potter is looking for versatility in his back line as Chelsea is now concerned about Wesley Fofana’s health following the defender’s setback in a friendly match against Brentford that was played behind closed doors. Josko Gvardiol, a 20-year-old Croatian World Cup standout, has also drawn a lot of interest from Chelsea, but the Blues are now contemplating Benoit Badiashile due to Benoit Badiashile’s rising value and reputation.
“Wesley [Fofana] recently experienced a minor setback, which can occasionally occur right before finishing therapy. He won’t be available for the game because it will be a few weeks,” Graham Potter said.
