Celtic has confirmed the signing of Odin Thiago Holm subject to international clearance on a five-year deal. The 20-year-old, who arrives from Valerenga in his native Norway, is manager Brendan Rodgers’ first addition to the team since his return. In 91 games for the squad with its home base in Oslo, he scored 13 goals, and he’ll wear No. 15 for Celtic the following year.
“We are thrilled to sign Odin to a contract with the club and to do so so early in the transfer season. He is a player who has long been in the club’s scouting and hiring system,” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said after the signing of Odin Thiago Holm. “After extensively examining him, I am confident that he has the potential to have a significant effect on the club. Odin is a motivated, interesting young athlete who I have already spent time with, and I know he is thrilled to be joining us. He is a fantastic addition to the high-caliber team we currently have, and we are forward to collaborating with him.”
Following Rodgers’ three-year comeback to the club as manager, Holm was hired. The 50-year-old moved for Leicester City midway through the 2018–19 season, much to the chagrin of many Celtic supporters. During his first stint in Glasgow, he won seven titles, including back-to-back domestic trebles. Rodgers is once again the highest-paid manager in the history of the team according to his new agreement, which exceeds the terms of his previous Celtic contract. The board of Celtic will support Rodgers in the transfer market so that he can win at home and play in the Champions League.
He takes the position of Ange Postecoglou, who joined Tottenham Hotspur after winning three straight league titles and a domestic treble the previous season. Despite rumors that he might follow Postecoglou at Spurs, John Kennedy will remain at Celtic as assistant manager, and Stevie Woods, Gavin Strachan, and Harry Kewell will continue in their roles as first-team coaches.
“It was a pretty easy decision for me and my family when I was given the opportunity to be invited to rejoin the club,” Rodgers added. “We’ve had some wonderful times at Celtic in the past, and this will be my objective once more: to play fantastic football, make sure we have a team that everyone enjoys watching and eventually bring more success to our supporters.”
