Bournemouth have completed the signing of Roma winger Justin Kluivert for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old has signed a “long-term contract” with the Vitality Stadium. He earned two caps for the Netherlands in 2018. He becomes the Premier League club’s first acquisition following the dismissal of Gary O’Neil and the hiring of head coach Andoni Iraola.
“We are overjoyed to have signed Justin as our first player for the next campaign. His arrival is proof of his desire, which is shared by ours, and it shows that he was sought after by a lot of teams around Europe,” Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said after the signing of Justin Kluivert. “Justin is a talented offensive player with a keen eye for goals. He has a high level of technical proficiency and speaks quickly and directly. Justin, who just turned 24 this year, has a tonne of experience and has competed at the top level domestically in five different nations. Along with earning senior-level international caps for his nation, he has also participated in the Champions League and Europa League. Justin is a player who we all think will be a terrific addition to our team and someone our supporters will love watching, therefore we are all extremely excited to work with him.”
Kluivert began his career at Ajax before switching to Serie A in 2018. He is the son of legendary Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert. In 68 games for Roma, he scored nine goals, and he spent the previous season on loan at Valencia after previous stints with RB Leipzig and Nice. In 29 games for La Liga last season, he tallied two assists and eight goals.
Rafael Benitez is preparing to take over as Celta Vigo’s manager in the meanwhile. An “agreement in principle” has been struck, according to Celta, for the former manager of Liverpool, Newcastle, and Real Madrid to assume control at the Balaidos Stadium as of the beginning of preseason practise in July. Since being let go by Everton in January of last year, 63-year-old Benitez has not held a managerial position. The Spaniard has a wealth of expertise with to stints at Chelsea, Napoli, Inter Milan, and Valencia, among other teams. He has won the Champions League, La Liga twice, the Europa League, UEFA Cup, Club World Cup, FA Cup, and Coppa Italia, among other prestigious competitions.
