Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has signed a new five-year contract at the club. Erik ten Hag’s first team at Old Trafford now includes 16-year-old Argentine forward Garnacho, who was bought by United from Atletico Madrid in 2020. After scoring twice as United won the FA Youth Cup for the 11th time last year, Garnacho, 18, is already having an effect at the senior level. Garnacho has previously played for the first team in 31 games.
Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho said, “I feel tremendously emotional and pleased to have already experienced these experiences, especially alongside my family who have supported me at every step of the journey. We are all happy for the chance to continue our journey at Manchester United, and I’ve already begun putting in effort towards the upcoming objectives. The manager and his coaching staff have provided me with thorough improvement support, and with their help, I continue to develop every day in order to contribute to the success of the club. I can’t wait to share even more special moments with this band as the future develops in front of our amazing fans.”
“Alejandro has since moved to Manchester completely devoted himself to achieving the targets the team has set for him,” director of football John Murtough said. “This new long-term contract indicates our faith in him to continue with his exciting progress under Erik and his team’s leadership. His talent, passion, and hunger for success helped him to rapidly go from our academy to the first squad, and his new long-term contract is a testament to those qualities. Since Alejandro is a player with a lot of potential, we are all eager to work with him to help him achieve his future goals at Manchester United.”
Garnacho will participate in team practice in part on Friday, according to United manager Erik Ten Hag. When Aston Villa visits on Sunday, he may even be named to the starting lineup. Since the middle of March, the adolescent has been out with an ankle injury, missing United’s past five league games.
