According to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge of Bayern Munich, Robert Lewandowski has shown that he is stronger than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The 32-year-old has had another outstanding season with Bayern, scoring 40 goals in 28 Bundesliga games to help his team win another title. He has scored five goals in six Champions League games before his team was knocked out in the quarter-finals by Paris Saint-Germain when he was hospitalized.
CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge Praises Robert Lewandowski
Through the involvement of Juventus hero Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes the striker is the best in the world.
According to Wirtualna Polska, he said: “He won the FIFA award for best player in the world, so the case is straightforward in my opinion. In the world of football, great talents have arisen, such as Kylian Mbappe. Regardless, Robert Lewandowski is the greatest player in the world right now. He is currently better than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, in my opinion.”
If he scores against Augsburg on Saturday, the Poland international will equal Gerd Muller’s record for most goals in a single Bundesliga season.
Muller set the record in 1970 and then repeated it in 1973, but Lewandowski will dethrone him with a single goal in the season’s final game.
Rummenigge Words:
“I’m going to tell you the facts. I was persuaded that Gerd Muller’s feat of scoring 40 goals in 1972 would never be matched “Rummenigge said the following.
“I was completely certain of that, and I have not changed my mind for several years since… And I didn’t have to. But then Robert arrived, and we’d already seen something special, and even breaking Gerd’s record is amazing. This is insane! However, I am certain that Robert will score goal 41 on Saturday. His peers will undoubtedly assist him, and we will be witnesses to a historical case.
I had the good fortune of playing with Gerd Muller for five years. He was incredible. And he has an opportunity to score two goals with no odds. He was only interested in scoring goals. Robert is different from Gerd, who was the king of the penalty area. He is more of a squad member, more interested in the team’s game.
So, in terms of pure football, Robert has plenty to offer, but both are wonderful legends. And I’m glad I’ve built a positive rapport with them. I think seven years ago, we fought for him. Yes, it was a fight and a tough one. Since there were so many strong opponents, including Real Madrid. Maybe others, including Robert, were skeptical that Bayern would win the Champions League. And help him become the top scorer in the world.
However, I vividly recall the scene after our last victory in Lisbon. Robert was right next to me on the pitch. He even shed a tear or two as a result of his emotions. And it was clear that he was overjoyed that he had realized his major football dream by joining Bayern.”
