Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is set to miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg in a skiing incident. The 36-year-old had an injury that required surgery while on vacation following Germany’s World Cup group-stage elimination. Neuer participated in all three of Germany’s games in Qatar, where his team was eliminated at the group stage for the second straight World Cup. Bayern is now leading the Bundesliga and will take on PSG on February 14 in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
“What can I say, the year’s end could have gone far better. I fractured my lower leg when ski touring while trying to clear my brain,” Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said on Instagram. “The procedure from yesterday went smoothly. I’m grateful to the physicians! But knowing that the current season is gone for me stings.”
The defender Lucas Hernandez, who is now playing for the Bundesliga’s top team, is also expected to miss a significant amount of time after rupturing his right anterior cruciate ligament during France’s 4-1 World Cup victory against Australia. On January 20, Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga standings by four points, will return to action when they visit RB Leipzig.
