England manager Gareth Southgate revealed that captain Harry Kane will be available for their World Cup game against the USA. After receiving a blow to his right ankle in the second half of Monday’s 6-2 victory over Iran, England’s captain continued to play for 25 minutes before being replaced and having a scan to assess the extent of the damage.
“He’s decent. He put in a little bit more individual training today, but he’ll rejoin the team tomorrow, and everything should go well for the game,” Gareth Southgate said about Harry Kane. “We simply looked him over to see. I believe that it’s sometimes crucial to know exactly what’s there when treating things, and that was all good. The foot is more of an issue than the ankle. Although it was a poor challenge overall, I believe we have managed to get away with it very lightly. When he fell on the field, I was [holding my breath], but after he continued to play, everything was fine.”
“When I saw the challenge while watching England with a manager’s perspective, I immediately thought, “This lad has a history with his ankles.” He remained a little lower because he wasn’t feeling well and was treading carefully. I’m thinking that he needs to go right away. That occurred in the 48th minute, and in the 75th, he was declared dead. He ran for 27 minutes on that ankle,” Graeme Souness said. “Some athletes require self-salvation. He scores goals. There are goals in this game versus Iran, so I’m going to remain on, he is reasoning. I believe that is incorrect. Since you were already three goals ahead at that moment, I believe the manager ought to have taken him off right away. No longer must you put Harry in danger. He ought to have left right away. It ought to have been placed immediately in an elevated position and on ice.”
