Tottenham boss Antonio Conte defended his playing style and selection choices urging fans to trust him. On Saturday, Arsenal defeated fierce rivals Tottenham thanks to goals from Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus, and Granit Xhaka, handing Spurs their first Premier League loss of the year. At the Emirates, Arsenal possessed 65 percent of the ball and 22 shots to Spurs’ seven, but Conte denied that his team was playing poorly.
“No, I believe that because of the traits of the players, we have to defend situations, and if we could have taken advantage of it, especially with final passes, we could have defeated Arsenal with a lot of goals,” Tottenham boss Antonio Conte said. “Instead, because we had the chance to go one-on-one, we made some very terrible errors on the last passes. However, every team must consider and comprehend how to play various games. Then I remind everyone that we won 3-0 last season, and in the same way, when you lose, you have to justify yourself, and when you win, your opponent has to justify themselves. However, for me, it’s important to try to have a plan, to put my players in the best possible circumstances to take advantage of their unique qualities.”
On Tuesday, Spurs will play Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. Conte’s team is presently three points behind Sporting Lisbon in Group D of the Champions League. Spurs have fallen to Bayern Munich twice and RB Leipzig twice in their last four Champions League games against German competition, with an overall score of 14-3. Four of their previous five European encounters have also resulted in losses for Spurs.
“We have the opportunity to play one more game. I believe that this is crucial,” he added. “We will have the opportunity to play another game tomorrow if we lose tonight. Given that we are playing against Eintracht Frankfurt, who won the Europa League the previous year, we are fully aware that the game will be very difficult.”
