Sam Kerr scored four goals to help Chelsea Women produce one of the comprehensive football results of the midweek action in the Champions League. The Blues defeated Paris Saint-Germain in their opening group match before winning convincingly at Kingsmeadow against a team competing in their first competition of the year. Although Kerr had only scored once in the Women’s Super League so far this season, she finished with a four-goal haul just after the hour mark and celebrated with a fiery backflip. Together with Katerina Svitkova, Harder scored three goals of her own, and Guro Reiten, making her 100th club appearance, concluded the game with four assists.
Chelsea, who finished second in 2021, maintained their strong start to the season despite not making it out of the group stages the previous year. After barely 10 minutes, Kerr gave Chelsea the lead when she received a pass from Harder and volleyed the ball into the goal. The Albanian team then managed to contain the Blues until the Australian striker scored her second after being assisted by Reiten in the 37th minute.
After another Reiten assists, Harder then tapped in, and Kerr thought she had a hat trick before halftime but was called for offside. When Kerr headed in Reiten’s cross ahead of teammate Magdalena Eriksson in the 57th minute, she was given credit for her hat-trick. She then scored the fourth goal before being removed. However, the scoring continued even without her as Harder added a sixth goal in the 72nd minute and then netted her third goal of the match after Svitkova had also scored.
