Luke Berry scored a late equalizer to help Luton produce one of the close football results of the weekend in the Championship. At Kenilworth Road, the visitors took the lead after only 55 seconds when Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu was unable to clear a cross, and Jamie Lindsay was left free to score with an angled volley. Carlton Morris’ header from an Alfie Doughty cross was simple for goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, and Tom Lockyer’s attempt from James Bree’s corner flew over as Town, who had club legend Mick Harford
After 28 minutes, the Hatters missed a fantastic opportunity to tie the score. Elijah Adebayo recovered possession of the ball in their opponent’s half before crossing for Morris, who could only drag his attempt regrettably wide with just Johansson to beat. In the 35th minute, Luton pushed forward once more. Allan Campbell ran forward despite Morris being unmarked to his right and attempted to score from the top corner but was only stopped by the quick-handed Johansson’s flying tip-over. After the break, Adebayo was also unable to bring his team level when under pressure to reach Bree’s cross from the left, and Morris got up well to another good delivery from Bree but again missed the target.
After 79 minutes, substitute Berry thought he had equalised the score, but the offside flag was raised. Luke Freeman, another substitute, also tried his luck, but his shot was deflected over by a defending player. But in the very last second, Luton managed to tie the score. In response to a long ball that was headed out to the edge of the box, Jordan Clark took a touch and fired a volley that Berry helped find the back of the net. Doughty then came close to winning it during the final seven minutes of stoppage time, but Johansson saved him with a low stop to his right.
