Man City has completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji for £15m. He has put pen to paper on a five-year contract ahead of the transfer deadline. Akanji was entering the final year of his contract and has not made a single appearance this season. The defender joined Dortmund in 2018, making 158 appearances for the club in all competitions.
“I am delighted to be here, and can’t wait to get started,” Manuel Akanji said after completing his move to Man City. “City have been one of the best teams in Europe over the last few seasons. They are brilliant to watch, play an exciting brand of football, and compete for trophies year in, and year out, so coming here feels like the perfect next step in my career. Pep Guardiola is an exceptional manager, and this is an exceptional squad of players, so this is an exciting opportunity for me. I am really looking forward to testing myself in the Premier League and I will do everything I can to help this club be successful.”
Meanwhile, Leicester City has completed the signing of defender Wout Faes from Reims for £15m. He will replace Wesley Fofana who completed his move to Chelsea.
“This is the dream step in my career and I’m very happy to be here,” Wout Raes said. “I’m progressing year after year, and I hope to continue doing the same here. All the facilities and knowledge are here to help me to get even better. I will have to work hard, but I will give 100 percent to help the team.”
“Faes had his bags packed and was ready to come, so was really disappointed that the move to Torino didn’t come through,” Andy Brassell said. “But then this Leicester move falls into his lap. It’s for more money and he gets to come to the Premier League. This is exactly the sort of market Leicester should be shopping in. Faes has been very consistent and I think he’ll be really good for them.”
