Jarrod Bowen scored a goal and set up another to help West Ham produce one of the comfortable football scores of the weekend in the Premier League. After a tense start, Scamacca gave the hosts the lead with his first Premier League goal, a rifled volley from 20 yards. Bowen had struggled to score in his previous eight Premier League games, but his deft finish to deny Wolves the win served as a reminder of his talent. The Hammers had only won once in the Premier League in their previous 14 games.
In the opening minutes of the game, the London Stadium seemed a touch tense because Moyes’ team had lost their previous six home games. In the first 10 minutes, Daniel Podence and Jonny both attempted long-range shots at Lukasz Fabianski as the Wolves recognized this.
Diego Costa put in a promising performance as a substitute, but Wolves’ offense continued to struggle, as their three goals this season are the fewest in the top four divisions of English football. When Bruno Lage made a few late substitutes at 2-0 down and his team had only managed 15 shots on goal, cries of “you don’t know what you’re doing” rang out from the opposing end.
Managers Reaction
West Ham manager David Moyes: “I think he did a great job. People have questioned why we haven’t played him, but we have wanted to. He only needs to reach a certain level of fitness to play in the Premier League. He led the line nicely and made a good shot on goal. He is distinct from previous leaders. We are quite happy with him.”
Wolves manager Bruno Lage: “We had the game under control for the first 30 minutes. With the ball, we had the game under control. We had three good opportunities in the opening thirty minutes. We made an effort to play with greater vigor and aggression in the latter part of the game.”
