Everton defender Lucas Digne has informed the club that he wants to leave amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Newcastle. Napoli has also expressed interest but wants a loan deal with an option to buy which Everton is not interested in. Digne signed from Barcelona in 2018 for £30m.
Chelsea is looking at bolstering their options at left-back with Ben Chilwell out for the rest of the season. Newcastle is also looking to improve their defense even more after the signing of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. Digne has had a falling out with manager Rafa Benitez and his tactics this season.
“He’s been very clear,” Everton boss Rafa Benitez said about Lucas Digne. “I want to ask a question to every fan and former player – what Peter Reid would do if a player comes out and says he doesn’t want to be there? That’s it – simple. I’ve had a couple of conversations with him and he told me what he thought so what do you expect the manager to do when a player is thinking of leaving? Fans, former players, what Peter Reid would say if a player goes to a manager and says he doesn’t want to be here?”
