Deanne Rose won gold at the Tokyo Olympic with Canada and is enjoying a memorable WSL debut with Reading. She has been a mainstay of the Canadian side making 68 appearances since her debut at the age of 16. She scored the winning goal in their third-place win over Brazil four years ago. Rose became the youngest female Olympic goalscorer at 17 years and 169 days.
“Ever since I was little, playing for Canada has been a dream come true, getting to represent them on the world’s biggest stage,” Olympic gold medalist Deanne Rose said. “Hopefully I can continue to do that for years to come but so far I’ve just had the best time. I don’t know what to expect at this point because I feel like the way that I started with the national team was just so unexpected, I’m just grateful every time I get to represent Canada now. I always admired the style of play, I know this is one of the best leagues in the world for women right now.”
“I wanted to be part of growing the game and I know this league is a big part of that. Playing with Canada helped me settle into this professional league a little bit better than maybe if I hadn’t,” she added. “Coming from College it’s definitely adjusting to the faster-paced game and the more physicality of players, that would probably be the main changes. I definitely feel like I’ve improved since I’ve been here and one of the beauties of this league is we just play so many games, as a player that’s your dream, the more games, the better you get. It was definitely a monumental moment for me, this being my first season in the league.”
