Ainsley Maitland-Niles will be staying at Arsenal this season after holding extensive talks with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. Everton was keen on signing the England international on loan with an option to buy. The defender is set to fight for a place in the Arsenal line-up. He has just made one substitute appearance this season and seems to be behind both Cedric Soares and Callum Chambers in the pecking order.
“All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play.” Ainsley Maitland-Niles had posted on Instagram describing the current situation at Arsenal.
On Monday, the defender had detailed talks with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta about the post. Reports suggest that no discussions regarding a potential Everton move were made. All parties are said to be interested in putting the matter behind them. Although the club would have considered letting him go the offer was too low.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have signed versatile defender Takeihiro Tomiyasu from Bologna for £19.8m. Hector Bellerin has joined Real Betis on loan for the season.
“Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level.” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said after completing the signing of Takehiro Tomiyasu. “He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability, and composure on the ball. He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.”
