Karim Benzema and Luka Modric starred as Real Madrid continued their recent good form with a 3-1 victory over Eibar, rising to the La Liga joint-top.
Zinedine Zidane has dropped spin in recent weeks in favor of sticking with a core group of players and that tactic paid off again as Real Madrid claimed their fifth consecutive victory in all competitions.
It took Los Blancos just six minutes to open the scoring, with Benzema bringing down a Rodrygo pass over the top to finish under the goalkeeper. Modric doubled Real Madrid’s advantage after a cut-back by Benzema shortly after, shooting straight into the net.
Eibar threw himself a lifeline just as the visitors looked like running away with the game when Kike Garcia curved a stunning right-footed shot from over 20 yards out into the top corner of Thibaut Courtois’ net.
Eibar pressed hard for an equalizer, but when Benzema played Lucas Vazquez in the back, with the winger slipping a low shot into the far corner of the net, they were caught out in stoppage time.
