Rangers have completed the signing of Malik Tilman on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy. Tilman becomes the fifth signing of the summer for Rangers as they look to win the title back from rivals Celtic after they finished runners-up last season. He was a key target for manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst as they prepare for the upcoming season and Champions League qualifiers.
“He is an exciting young talent who will further add to our attacking options and me and the coaching staff is looking forward to working with him,” Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst said about Malik Tilman.
The club has also agreed to a deal with Liverpool for Ben Davies. He played 21 games in the Championship last season while on loan at Sheffield United. Rangers will pay £3m upfront and the rest with add-ons. He was a target of a number of clubs with Blackburn and Middlesbrough looking to sign the defender while Stoke and Burnley were looking for a loan deal.
“Rangers appear to have beaten off a lot of competition in the race to sign Liverpool center-back Ben Davies,” Vinny O’Connor said. “Hopefully, it all gets completed – a £4m fee and a move to a club like Rangers is a really positive outcome for Ben and the club. Blackburn made an impressive offer and pitch and Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has been after Ben since he was Sheffield United manager.”
“That level of interest clearly illustrates Ben’s reputation in the game. He’s been a consummate professional while at Liverpool and was popular in the dressing room,” he added. “Jurgen Klopp is disappointed it didn’t work out as had been hoped when he joined but has remained engaged with Ben throughout.”
