Romelu Lukaku extended his Europa League record goalscoring streak when he scored in Monday’s (Aug 17) semi-final for the 10th consecutive outing in Inter Milan ‘s 5-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.
Twice late in the second half, Belgium forward Lukaku scored as Inter qualified for a first European final since winning the 2010 Champions League under Jose Mourinho. They’ll face Seville for the title in Cologne on Friday.
“At the minute it’s all going well but we’re still fighting. Records are broken but we want to win,” Lukaku told BT Sport.
“We need to be well prepared, to recover, and to play again. The team is doing well and everyone is doing the best they can. We have been working hard at the camp. It is tough but you see the hard work results. We want to move on.”
Throughout his first season with Inter, Lukaku increased his tally to 33 goals, a short of Ronaldo ‘s record in his first season at the club when the Brazilian led the Nerazzurri to the 1997/98 UEFA Cup title.
Lautaro Martinez had previously netted Shakhtar twice. He and Lukaku are the first Inter pair since Adriano and Obafemi Martins scored 20 or more goals in a single season in the 2004-05 campaign.
