A Liverpool pitch invader who collided with the players while celebrating their last goal has been arrested. As the players celebrated the final goal of their 7-0 thrashing of their opponents on Sunday, a spectator ran onto the pitch and slipped, colliding with Andrew Robertson, who went down clutching his ankle but finished the game. A 16-year-old Winsford teenager has been arrested on suspicion of invading a football pitch. He has agreed to voluntarily attend a police station in Merseyside in connection with this incident. The child has been banned from Anfield for life, according to Liverpool.
“This irresponsible and harmful behavior has no justification. The safety and security of players, teammates, and fans are vital,” Liverpool said in a statement about the pitch invader. “The club will now follow its formal sanctions procedure, and the suspected offender’s account has been stopped until the procedure is completed. If convicted of invading the pitch without permission, the offender faces a criminal record as well as a lifetime ban from Anfield and other Premier League stadiums. These are dangerous, illegal behaviors with serious repercussions.”
The Liverpool pitch invader was escorted away by stewards and also received an earful from manager Jürgen Klopp, who was enraged on the touchline as the linesman attempted to calm him down. Merseyside Police are presently investigating the incident with Liverpool Football Club. The result increased Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four, as the club moved up to fifth, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand. On Saturday, they go to relegation-threatened Bournemouth.
