Wolves confirmed the sacking of head coach Bruno Lage after they entered the relegation zone following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham. The Wolves leadership has concluded that a manager change is necessary following the club’s fourth defeat of the year—a 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium. Wolves spent £100 million on new players this summer as Lage tried to create a team in his image, but Lage’s 15-month reign at the club is now over since he was unable to change the team’s fortunes. Wolves have only won one of its last 15 Premier League games since a 2-1 victory against Aston Villa at Molineux on April 2.
“We’re under pressure,” Bruno Lage said after Wolves lost at the London Stadium. “We will keep working. I am aware of our supporters. We give them our best effort. We’re in a poor place right now; we don’t have any objectives or wins. We have to keep working. I can guarantee that we will put in a lot of effort every day to offer the team good games and victories.”
Bruno Lage had Wolves eighth in the Premier League standings and five points outside of the Champions League spots 31 games into a run that ended after 46 games. Since then, his team has fallen apart, and he is now without a job. This sharp deterioration is shown by the one victory in 15 games. They are not merely the Premier League’s lowest scorers for the current campaign. The reason for this is that since April, they have scored fewer goals than Burnley, and Burnley was demoted in May. With a team that doesn’t score goals, Lage has failed to meet his objectives. In his final two home games, Lage’s name was yelled out loud and frequently, so there was no lack of support.
