Bruno Fernandes is a “fantastic” player for Manchester United, according to Sir Alex Ferguson. Since he arrived from Sporting in January 2020, the midfielder has been a key figure at Old Trafford. Fernandes, who is now 26, has the most goals and assists for the Red Devils this season, helping them finish second in the Premier League and qualify for the Europa League final.
Alex Ferguson Hails Bruno Fernandes
Ferguson has been inspired by the Portugal international’s impact at United and feels he brings something to the squad that has been lacking for years.
Ferguson told BBC Radio Manchester, “Well, he’s been brilliant the lad. He’s scored vital goals, and even though he’s taking penalty kicks, he’s very, very calm, and I can’t imagine a goalkeeper ever getting close to his penalty kicks. So he’s composed, his goals from outside the box are still dangerous, and he’s got the one thing United has lacked in recent years: the potential to execute a final-third move. It weakens defenses, which I believe is critical.”
Fernandes performance this season
This season, Fernandes has 28 goals and 17 assists in all competitions. He was a key figure in his team’s run to the Europa League final. He scored twice and assisting on another two goals in a 6-2 victory over Roma in the semi-finals. In the second leg of the game, he added another assist.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s team will play Wolves in the Premier League final on Sunday. They will face Villarreal in the European final on May 26.
