Leeds winger Dan James believes that the first appearance for Wales in the World Cup in 64 years is special. Page was appointed temporary manager in November 2020 and guided Wales to a last-16 finish at the postponed Euro 2020 competition before Ryan Giggs was replaced permanently in June when World Cup qualification was assured. Wales won’t be in Doha only to “fill up the numbers,” according to Harry Wilson and Dan James, two members of Page’s 26-man team who play for Fulham. Wales has been placed in Group B with Iran, England, and the United States.
“We merit being there entirely. We are eligible. Every game we play, we enter with the mindset that we can win. No need to feel rushed. We must go outside and take it all in,” Dan James said about the World Cup. “It’s extremely odd that November has come around. However, since this is our first time, it is typical for us. It’s going to be fantastic beyond belief. Because of the way things turned out with Covid, we clearly lost out on fan attendance at the Euros. We were in locations where fans were unable to visit, but now that they can, I’m sure they are looking forward to it just as much as we are.”
“It appears to be a really large game. two domestic opponents playing each other. It happened at the Euros in 2016 as well, so I doubt I’ll be particularly excited for that match,” he added. “I’m excited to see everyone. If you overthink that game, you won’t place yourself correctly in the first two. Everywhere he went, he did it. He’s the best candidate for the position. If you give him a shot, he’ll succeed. Just happy he’s healthy for the World Cup.”
