David de Gea – 8
When his team needed him, he stepped up. In the first half, when Newcastle was putting Man United under great pressure, he made a big reflex save to deny Allan Saint-Maximin. There were times when his distribution made it difficult for teammates, but on the whole, he passed the ball well.
Diogo Dalot – 5
After an early booking, struggled to keep up with Saint-Maximin and did not offer much moving forward. Erik ten Hag replaced him during the break with Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Raphael Varane – 8
As Manchester United was struggling early on, he remained composed at the back. He made a couple of crucial defensive interventions, notably an early tackle on Callum Wilson on the edge of the box.
Lisandro Martinez – 8
The Argentine shown bravery on several occasions, putting his head where it hurts to deny Newcastle twice.
Luke Shaw – 8
Man United’s first goal came as a result of Shaw’s delivery, which Casemiro headed in. The left-game back’s reading assisted him in dealing with Newcastle’s formidable right-hand combination of Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron.
Casemiro – 9

Man United’s starting captain had a somewhat quiet game by his typical, and he wasted some important passes on the break when teammates were available.
Marcus Rashford – 7
Man United’s golden boy did not score, but he did provide a nice flick to Wout Weghorst before gaining the ball back for Man United’s second.
Wout Weghorst – 7
With a well-timed pass, he assisted Rashford’s shot, which Sven Botman deflected in for the second goal.
Newcastle United
Loris Karius – 8
Before this game, the keeper carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. Yet, in his first competitive game in two years, the former Liverpool star did not put a foot wrong.
Kieran Trippier – 7
Trippier restored calm to the Newcastle back line and was a dangerous threat on the overlap, combining nicely with Almiron.
Dan Burn – 6
They were solid at the back, keeping Manchester United at bay for the whole of the game. He blew a fantastic chance to cut the score in half right before halftime.
Sven Botman – 6
He was given the own goal when Rashford’s strike bounced in off him, but he was unaware of it. Other from that, he was a decent player for Newcastle, and he distributed the ball well.
Fabian Schar – 6
Schar put in a strong showing, battling Martinez in a header but unable to strike the target.
Joelinton – 7
Forward for Newcastle, he posed a threat but couldn’t find an opening. He kept the ball well in midfield as Newcastle caused issues for Manchester United in the center.
Bruno Guimaraes – 8
Guimaraes was a huge loss for Newcastle during his three-match ban. On his return, he showed no evidence of rustiness. The muscular presence of the Brazilian proved crucial for Newcastle in the midfield duel.
Sean Longstaff – 5
Taken off at half-time due to a tactical change by Eddie Howe, but had contributed to Newcastle’s early domination over Manchester United, which they could not quite convert into a goal.
Miguel Almiron – 6
Early on in a counter-attack, he had an opportunity to transfer the ball to three or four teammates but completely miscued his pass.
Allan Saint-Maximin – 7
Saint-Maximin was dangerous for the first hour of the game, and Dalot was brought out at halftime because he couldn’t control him. He had less success against Wan-Bissaka, failing to find the vital pass in the final third.
Callum Wilson – 6
Threw himself around to test Varane and Martinez, but he was feeding off crumbs with the Manchester United defense offering him little encouragement.
