Rangers boss Steven Gerrard revealed that Filip Helander underwent surgery on his knee and will not feature for the foreseeable future. Helander has stretchered off the pitch in a 2-1 win over St Johnstone in the Scottish League. The Rangers boss said that the defender will be out for at least a few months. The Scottish side will take on Lyon in the Europa League. Lyon beat Strasbourg 3-1 in the Ligue 1 last weekend.
“Helander will be missing,” Rangers boss Steven Gerrard said talking about Filip Helander. “He has had surgery in the last 24-48 hours to fix an issue that they spotted when they went inside to have a look so he will be missing for the foreseeable future. The rest is as it was so we are in good health besides Fil. I’ve not had a chance to speak to Fil post-surgery but I will do as soon as possible to see how he is mentally and physically. It is difficult to put a time on his return for now but will be at least a few months.”
“Connor Goldson comes back and is available for tomorrow,” added Gerrard. “I am confident we have cover and will manage despite being disappointed Filip is missing. At full strength, Lyon is very much a Champions League team with Champions League-calibre players, they have a manager who got this job on the back of doing ever so well as the Bayer Leverkusen manager.”
