Chennaiyin FC captain Anirudh Thapa revealed the team is eager to perform in front of their fans at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai. The Hero ISL is set to kick off on October 7 when East Bengal takes on Kerala Blasters. Thapa believes that the last two years of playing behind closed doors were a letdown for everyone.
“I think the fans are excited and so are we. They will be back after two years. We missed them and it will be great to meet them and entertain them. Having fans will create an amazing atmosphere in this season’s ISL for sure,” Chennaiyin FC captain Anirudh Thapa said. “Last two years have been tough for us. I can recall the packed stands in Chennai with the people of the city behind us in each and every match. There have been special nights at the Marina Arena and I am looking forward to experiencing them back once again.”
“You know the matches in Bengaluru, Kochi, and Kolkata will be amazing as well because you have a great turnout in these centers. I am most excited to play the four teams away from home as well,” he added. “Weekly matches will be nice for both players as well as fans, and will give ample time in between matches so everyone can enjoy (themselves) better.”
Meanwhile, Odisha FC has completed the signing of the experienced Amrinder Singh. He came through the ranks of the Pune FC youth team before moving to ATK FC in 2015.
“I am very pleased to have signed up for Odisha FC,” Singh said. “After deliberating over various options, I feel the project Odisha FC as a club has envisioned is the one that matches my ambition and commitment. The club has built a young and enterprising team, and under a coach like Josep Gombau, I am sure we can achieve the goals set for the season.”
