Many footballers have pledged financial support as the coronavirus pandemic continues to sweep the globe.
On Wednesday, FC Bayern presented a €250,000 donation to WeKickCorona, created by players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. The contribution comes from the sale of FCB face masks made by a Bavarian company out of scarves originally supposed to be handed out at the postponed Champions League match at the Allianz Arena against Chelsea.
“With WeKickCorona it is amazing what Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich have done,” said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, CEO of FC Bayern. “We are delighted to be able to hand over a sum of €250,000 from the proceeds from our face masks, giving our players this remarkable campaign.”
Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich created the WeKickCorona movement to encourage social and charitable institutions from all areas of society, especially those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
National Germany team donated €2.5 million and Milan gave €250,000 while Bayern Munich players Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich set up a fund called ‘We Kick Corona,’ chipping in a combined €1 million. Guardiola ‘s decision to provide financial support follows in the footsteps of others throughout the sporting world.
