By holding a birthday party, Watford star Andre Gray apologized for breaking Covid-19 lockout laws
The Englishman and Domingos Quina have reportedly attended a “20-person crowd” at the forward ‘s house last week with the government still taking social distancing steps. This saw both the duo, plus midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, both axed on Sunday for the 3-1 defeat to Southampton. And Gray has now spoken out at his house after the party, which he shares with Little Mix actress Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
Posting on his Instagram story, Gray said: “I wanted to wait to make public apologies as my first apology needed to be first for my teammates and staff not being able to participate in the game yesterday and the risk I might have caused!”
“I also want to clarify that it wasn’t like what’s been described as a late-night party and just a group of friends that turned into a kind of football tournament on my birthday! I understand my obligations and will do whatever it takes to get it right, excuse me again!
Quina also apologized via his own Instagram channel for his actions.
The Portuguese footballer said: “I want to apologize to the public for skipping last week’s birthday party for my teammates. It was a dumb error to make in endangering my family’s health and safety, my teammates, and others. As a professional footballer, I am in a fortunate role and understand that I must make sound decisions and to behave in the right way. Let’s move on in the knowledge that I’m going to do everything I can to keep up with what the Watford fans deserve if called on.”
Watford boss Nigel Pearson declined to comment on the trio that was left out after the Saint’s loss, leaving the Hornets just one point above the drop and a game ahead.
