Liverpool has moved on to another point in the Premier League according to star defender Virgil van Dijk. Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool has achieved a “new level” on their way to the Premier League title this season.
Liverpool had been crowned league champions for the first time since Thursday, 1990 when Manchester City fell to defeat at Chelsea.
Van Dijk arrived at Anfield in January 2018 and is considered one of the finest defenders in the world, now adding a league title to last year’s success in the Champions League.
The Dutch International claims Liverpool has reached new heights in 2019-20, winning 28 of 31 league games this season.
“I hoped to settle as quickly as I could, to be honest when I joined in the winter I hoped for the best in the first six months,” Van Dijk told BT Sport.
“It was a huge boost for me personally to get to the Champions League final right away. It was something that helped me a lot and the year after we came close with the Premier League and we were lucky enough to win the Champions League and blessed it. We’ve been taking things to a different level this year, particularly the league, and everyone can have their opinions and stuff, but we were so consistent.”We’ve been doing so well in different parts of our game, whether it’s that we have to dig deep to do it in the last few minutes of the game or do it easily as well and it’s a great feeling and I’m very, very happy that I’m a Premier League winner too.”
His team-mates celebrating their results disrupted the interview with Van Dijk, with Liverpool still 23 points clear on top with seven games remaining.
