After testing positive for a soviet astronaut stimulant, a Ukrainian striker has been threatened with a one-year ban. Artem Besedin will not play football until December of this year, however, despite failing a substance test.
DYNAMO KIEV’s UKRAINE forward Artem Besedin was suspended for a year on Tuesday after he failed a drug test at a Europa League match, Uefa said.
The 24-year-old had traces of the forbidden stimulant Fonturacetam in his body, which was originally developed in 1983 to help astronauts from the former Soviet Union battle exhaustion in space.
Besedin has been checked in the Europa League group stage after Dynamo’s defeat to Malmo on 28 November.
The Uefa suspension lasts until December 19, with the player opting to not appeal the fine.
Besedin, who joined Dynamo in 2015, has his name on 13 international caps.
