Milan [Italy], May 30 (ANI): the Italian football season will begin with Coppa Italia’s final stages before Serie A resumes its suspended season.
All 20 top-tier clubs voted and it was agreed that the final stages of Coppa Italia will begin on June 17, and then Serie A will start on June 20, Goal.com announced.
Series A also reported that this decision was taken following the go-ahead given by Vincenzo Spadafora, Italy’s sports minister.
While Coppa Italia’s finals will be played on June 17, the dates for the semi-finals have yet to be set. Because of the coronavirus pandemic Series A has been suspended since March.
The Lega Serie A assembly met today [Friday] in a video conference, in the presence of all 20 affiliated clubs. The clubs welcomed the green light to Series A ‘s return yesterday communicated by Minister Spadafora and unanimously voted on the conflict over the four matches of the 25th match (Atalanta v Sassuolo, Hellas Verona v Cagliari, Inter v Sampdoria and Torino v Parma) on the weekend of June 20-21 and the preparation of match 27 beginning on Monday, June 22, Serie A said in an official statement.
Juventus had been at the top of the league table before Series A’s suspension.

In the second leg of the Coppa semi-final in Turin on March 4 the side was set to face off against Milan. Napoli had been set to face off against Inter Milan in the other semi-final second leg.
Earlier, Germany’s Bundesliga had become the first major football competition to restart its suspended season.
Premier League also set June 17 aside as a potential date for restart.
