Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has reacted to the speculation about the future of Lionel Messi, announcing that the Argentine icon will remain in the squad for the rest of his career.
Earlier this week, the speculation was forced into overdrive, after Cadena SER confirmed that Messi was planning to leave Barcelona before his contract expires next season.
“We ‘re focusing on the competition and there are a lot of players in negotiations. Messi plans to continue his career here, and finish it here. He has a lot of years left and we’ll be enjoying him a lot longer.I’m not going to give details, but Messi has repeatedly indicated that he’s going to end his football career in Barcelona,” he said.
That possibility was immediately refuted by Bartomeu himself, who seems adamant that the 33-year-old will sign a new contract with the Catalan giants until the end of his playing days.
