On Thursday, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reported, Sergio Aguero will undergo knee surgery. The city had said on Tuesday that Aguero would be traveling to Barcelona for an examination of his left knee which was hurt.
After winning a first-half penalty in Monday’s 5-0 Premier League victory over Burnley, the Argentina striker was in pain and the injury seemed to be compounded in a battle with Clarets skipper Ben Mee.
Following the game, City boss Pep Guardiola admitted that Aguero, who had been struggling with the injury in training before the top-flight resumption, didn’t “look good.”
He ‘s going to go under the knife now, but he’s not entirely ruled out of the end of the Champions League season to be played in August.
Guardiola told reporters on Wednesday as he spoke ahead of Chelsea’s away match with City: “Tomorrow he ‘s going to do an operation. Once the surgery is over, we’ll know the time Sergio comes back to play with us. I don’t know [about the Champions League] right now. We’ll find out how bad the injury to Sergio is after he has seen the specialist [Dr. Ramon Cugat], we’ll know more tomorrow.”
Guardiola’s statement came after Aguero, 32, had fans updated in a social media post.
“This morning’s scans verified that I injured my left knee,” he wrote.
Tuesday.
He added: “It’s a pity but, I’m in good spirits and focused on coming back as soon as possible. Thanks so much for all your messages!”
Aguero has scored 16 goals this season from 24 games in the Premier League, of which only 18 have started.
If the injury rules him out of the final eight matches in the city, his run of scoring in the league for the last five seasons will end at least 20 times.
