Atalanta midfielder Andrea Rinaldi died at the age of 19, Serie A club reported. Last Friday, Rinaldi had a brain aneurysm and was admitted to the hospital.
The news was described by Legnano, the Series D club where the player was on loan, as “a sudden and shocking tragedy impossible to imagine.”
Young Atalanta midfielder Andrea Rinaldi passed away yesterday after being rushed to a Varese hospital on Friday and placed in intensive care, where he struggled for his life. Because of a brain aneurysm, he was in a very bad condition and some media had previously claimed that he had died, but this was soon denied.
Unfortunately the news isn’t fake this time. The club also bid farewell to the young player on their website.
Rinaldi would have turned 20 next month. He went through Atalanta’s youth school and was under contract at his home club, and he played on loan this season at Legnano, one of the best Serie D teams
Club president Giovanni Munafo said: “Andrea came to train and first came to welcome me. I will hold this memory in my heart. “[He was] an exceptional child, an example for all. I extend my deepest condolences to the family on behalf of the club.”
At the age of 13 Rinaldi joined the Atalanta youth system and won the Scudetto and Supercoppa in 2016 with the Under-17 team.
With the team, he won a U-17 Scudetto and Italian SuperCup and was on loan to fourth-tier Serie D side Legnano this season, just outside Milan.
