Robert Lewandowski is the world’s number one striker, and is in the best form of his career, says team-mate Javi Martinez from Bayern Munich.
Lewandowski has now surpassed his highest tally in professional football in a single season, with 43 goals from 37 games in all competitions.
While Bayern is closing in on an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title, the 31-year-old is on course for the fourth time in his career to be crowned the division’s top scorer. With five games left to play, RB Leipzig star Timo Werner is just four goals behind.
Martinez was fascinated by the exploits of this term by Poland International, saying that when it comes to finding the net, he is the best in the game.
“He has the best year of his life. Anything goes in. He’s an athlete-the the best No.9 in the world. Hopefully, until August, he can continue like this. Fear [that he would be leaving to join Real Madrid]? No, because great players have left Bayern and they’ve always replaced them well. It’s clear he ‘d been a big loss, but it didn’t,” Martinez told Marca.
Headlines were last month when Bayern right-back and defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich scored a decisive goal against Borussia ‘s rivals Dortmund, extending his side lead to seven points at the top of the table. When coach Niko Kovac was sacked in November and replaced by interim boss Hansi Flick, Bayern was fourth in the table.
They won 22 of the 25 matches they played under the 55-year-old, who signed a deal until 2023 to stay on as head coach, and Martinez believes the former assistant to Germany and Bayern is a perfect match.
