Germany wasn’t free from the Covid-19 ravages. According to a source, the country has the 4th highest number of reported cases in Europe, with more than 107,000 by Wednesday morning.
Cologne has three infected men, two players, and a physical therapist.
Clubs were screened for coronavirus in preparation for the Bundesliga competition and on Sunday night it was revealed that 14 teams had no positive cases, with tests from three clubs still pending, said German media Augsburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Leipzig.
“Three people have tested positive, rest all are symptom-free,” said the club release. “When the responsible health authorities investigate the cases, the three persons who tested positive would go into 14-day quarantine at home,” Cologne said that they would not disclose any names out of respect for the privacy of the individuals involved.
The Bundesliga faced fresh doubt about its resumption on Thursday when a decision was postponed by the German government on when football would return.
The top two divisions in Germany were suspended on March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic and officials in the league had expected to get the green light to play games behind closed doors this week.
The German Football League (DFL) has adopted a special safety policy to be adhered to by all teams and players in the event of a resumption of the Bundesliga. Since 13 March, the Bundesliga has been on break, with nine rounds left. Bundesliga clubs are actually permitted to practice in smaller groups and without touch, and if footballers get the “green light” from authorities, the competition may be resumed on May 16 at the earliest.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced that a decision will be made on Wednesday May 6 to reopen the championship.
