Paris Saint-Germain is in negotiations to sign highly regarded Porto left-back Alex Telles, Goal can confirm, with French champions trying to acquire the services of the 27-year-old as he moves closer to the final year of his current deal.
Recent reports suggested that an agreement of € 25 million (£22m/$27 m) had been reached between the two European sides, but details remain to be ironed out before Telles can look forward to lining up at Parc des Princes alongside fellow Brazilians Marquinhos and Neymar. Contrary to reports, an agreement has not yet been concluded, although talks between the two European heavyweights appear to be progressing well.
Indeed, for the past couple of days, sporting director Leonardo has been locked in negotiations with the player’s entourage, but both Telles and his club still have to reach full agreement with the side of Thomas Tuchel.
PSG has been on the lookout for some time for an experienced full-back, but now they have to face the fact that Layvin Kurzawa will be leaving the club as a free agent this summer, having failed to reach terms on an extension in the French capital.
Last summer, Kurzawa was linked to a move to Juventus, although at some point Inter, Barcelona, and Arsenal were all credited with an interest.
Another of Thomas Meunier’s PSG-wide defenders will also head out of the exit door at the end of June. And while young Colin Dagba might fill in for the short term, on the right-hand side, Les Parisiens are also on the market for additional cover.
Meunier, an international Belgium, has recently been linked to a move to Liverpool, while Tottenham and many other top clubs across Europe are said to have tracked his situation.
Wherever Meunier and Kurzawa end up, both full-backs will be a great value for their respective clubs because very few sides will be able to demand exorbitant transfer fees for respective signatures due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic’s negative financial effects.
Earlier in May, PSG has crowned Ligue 1 champions, with the French government deciding to curtail the season in an attempt to reduce the Covid-19 spread – something that hasn’t gone well with many of the league’s clubs.
