The Barcelona legend, Rivaldo, believed that when he returned from his loan to Bayern Munich, Philippe Coutinho may still have a future at the club. Coutinho spent the 2019-20 campaign with Bayern but it is not expected that the German outfit will make the deal permanent until the end of the current season, creating questions about its long-term future.
The 27-year-old was inclined to transfer back to the Premier League, with Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Paddy among the associated clubs, but Rivaldo believes his countryman might still prove to be at Camp Nou. “When things don’t go according to the script, they tend to get harder and harder. And I think Philippe Coutinho thinks that right now, after suffering an injury that will hold him off the field for at least a month and a half, “Rivaldo told Betfair.”
“For him, this is a delicate moment and he must stay confident that things will eventually turn out for the better. Chelsea is the favorite to sign Coutinho and I don’t think his latest injury would scare them off. After all, next season is still very far away and he’ll have ample time to heal fully.”
On the other hand, if the transfer doesn’t go forward and he’s staying in Barcelona, perhaps a wage reduction, based on the player’s decision, could earn plaudits from the board of the club and perhaps let him show that he’s eager to stay in the club and prove his worth at last.
Many clubs are already reducing the salaries of their players due to the coronavirus crisis, but if the player takes a step forward in that it would be seen as the attitude of someone interested in staying at the club itself.
A lot could happen before next season and we can only wait for the next chapters of this story.
Coutinho scored nine goals and assisted 8 out of 32 appearances in all Bayern competitions.
