Philippe Coutinho is ready to take a salary cut after asking Jurgen Klopp personally to re-sign him for Liverpool, reports say. After just two years at the club, the playmaker’s dream move to Barcelona is in tatters. Coutinho forced his way out of Liverpool midway through the campaign in 2018/19 but Barcelona shipped out on loan last summer and is on sale.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Leicester City are only a few sides that have been offered to Coutinho, but the Sunday World says the Brazilian is eager to return to Liverpool.
Coutinho has also made a personal plea to Klopp to make his transfer green light and is willing to take a pay cut to make it happen. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Liverpool currently lacks transfer funds, and Klopp was forced to ax a move for Timo Werner.
The RB Leipzig striker was Klopp’s top target this summer, but after Liverpool chiefs told their manager they couldn’t afford Werner the German will now join Chelsea.
Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian was given the role of securing a transfer back to Liverpool and made it clear that his client would reduce his wages. Coutinho would be a costly addition to Liverpool, earning Barcelona a whopping £250.00 a week. The La Liga giants are willing to pay a portion of their wages if they send Coutinho out on loan again, but Barcelona would prefer to sell the 28-year-old.
Joorabchian has said on several occasions that Coutinho’s preference is to return to the Premier League where he produced his best form. Liverpool brilliantly reinvested the £142million they received from the Coutinho sale, buying Virgil van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson Becker back in the center.
The Reds have dominated the Champions League since Coutinho’s retirement, and are just two victories away from winning their first-ever Premier League title.
