With tears in eyes, forward Neymar talked bluntly about his time at the power of Barcelona and Lionel Messi.
The 28-year-old Brazilian arrived at the Spanish club from Santos in 2013 and made 123 appearances and scored 68 times during his four-year tenure at the Camp Nou.
Neymar described his encounter with captain Barca, claiming to be there to assist him at a significant stage in his life.
“Honestly, it’s hard to think of Messi, really hard for me, because it was very special for me in Barcelona, I say this to all,” he told Rede Globo Espetacular Esporte (via SportBible).
“When I needed the most help, the world’s greatest player came up and gave me a hand. He said: ‘Come here and I will be here to help you.’
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner even told him not to be “shy” and not to be scared of “anyone in the squad,” according to the Paris Saint-Germain star. Neymar left Barcelona for the French team in 2017 for a €222 m world record transfer fee.
