It has been confirmed that at least 10 Premier League clubs could block the planned £300 m Saudi Arabian takeover from Newcastle.
Unrest is thought to be rising, and according to The Sun, they could come together to demand that the Premier League block the sale based on commercial concerns.
Fresh legal documents have been submitted to the League, allegedly showing a connection between the Saudi state and the country’s illegal sports streaming. There are currently several court proceedings pending in this matter.
If the documents demonstrate a connection between the Saudi government and the BeoutQ pirate streaming site, they could fail the proper owner check.
Earlier this month, Sportsmail reported that BT and Sky lobbied the US government to blacklist the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as early as January 2020 because of TV piracy.
A decision by league leaders is now likely to be postponed while lawyers consider the latest paperwork.
And it’s known that competing clubs keep a close eye on how it progresses.
Newcastle ‘s planned £300 m takeover will see Saudi Arabia ‘s Public Investment Fund taking an 80 % stake in the club while Amanda Staveley’s PCP partners will hold 10% and property tycoons, David, and Simon Reuben, own the remaining 10%.
The delay in announcing the takeover, backed by crown prince Mohammed bin Salman from Saudi Arabia, left Mike Ashley to wonder whether he should search for other buyers.
