Former Juventus player Claudio Marchisio encourages Series A to restart during the pandemic as too many people rely on the sport and ‘no danger is unlikely.’ In the next 24 hours, a decision is anticipated as to whether the government approves the FIGC medical protocol, which would open up to contact training and possibly sports.
“At this moment, football is stuck in the grips of this situation just the same as any other career,” Marchisio said to Tuttosport.
Marchisio believes that football is one of the top 10 industries in this country, with a very significant financial contribution involving millions. Even the athletes, who have very different financial viewpoints, and then the employees who depend on the sport for the livelihood.
“The Players’ Union had at first been hesitant to return to work, but they are now ready to finalize the protocol.”I hope we can get back to playing early because I am an optimist, I love football and genuinely miss it,” Marchisio added.
Marchisio says that he doesn’t want people to wait until there are zero risks because the possibility of contagion is high. And in a contact sport like football that doesn’t happen.
“We have to try to arrange it to will the danger as much as possible, but if we wait for it to be nil, we will never again play”: Marchisio said.
However, the Government and, in particular, Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora continue to press for the end of the 2019-20 season, following the example of the League 1.
Marchisio says that it is the judgment that needs to be respected, but then the state would still have to take responsibility for ensuring the industry will not go under. He believes that many football teams would go bankrupt if they stopped playing and it will not only affect the player but everybody who makes this business work.
