Maradona decided to stay with Gymnastics for 18 months if Antonio Torres wins the Spanish elections, Marca states.
The media were stunned by comments made by Antonio Torres in Spanish soccer at Betevé. At the Royal Spanish Federation elections Sabadell’s longtime official and lifetime participant, Gimnástico Mercantil y Terrasa, introduces himself as a presidential candidate.
Antonio Torres said: “If I’m the next President of the Spanish Federation, Diego Armando Maradona will be the next coach of Spain for the next two years. He will be the manager of the Qatar World Cup, hoping to reach the final. The best player in history, who has gone right here in Barcelona, will join my team. I talked to Matías Morla, Roberto Trotta, and all of his squad about it. They are very plain, modest people, and Maradona is highly qualified as a coach, and above all, his expertise is in soccer.”
The conversation between the lawyer and the chairman, who at the time are betting on becoming president of the Catalan Federation, will take several months. And the deal would only be put into effect if Torres were ever to win in elections.
Diego already has a contract as director of Gimnasia La Plata for the next 18 months.
