Frank Lampard insists that Chelsea has not made a bid to Bayer Leverkusen for £75million for midfielder Kai Havertz. Havertz’s string of impressive performances for both Germany and Leverkusen has placed the 21-year-old on the radar of some of Europe’s top teams.
Chelsea has long been linked to a seven-cap midfielder move, but Blues manager Lampard has not issued a bid.
Asked if Chelsea had made contact with Leverkusen, Lampard said, “No, no offers were going in. He’s a great player but, I’m certainly not going to speculate on other stars on other teams. And our focus cannot be on that. So, nothing to say.”
When asked how many more Chelsea recruits will chase this summer, Lampard continued: “Because we have the games we need to complete before the window opens, I don’t know. When it comes around, we’ll be broaching something about that. So, our only emphasis for the minute can be on the games in hand.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s defender Antonio Rudiger says he has played the key role in signing RB Leipzig’s Teammate Timo Werner from Germany.
Rudiger told Chelsea television: “Since we’ve known each other for a long time, I’ve spoken to him before. We talked a lot during the lockdown, and he told me he was keen to come to England. Of course, I did my bit then what I needed to do.”
He added: “He’s a big defensive threat. When it comes to breaching the defensive line, RB Leipzig is a more counter-attacking team but is close to Vardy. He’s got a lot of speed, and if the defender makes a mistake and drops the ball, then he’s off!”
