Reportedly, Jose Mourinho would look for Tottenham Hotspur frontman Harry Kane to sign if he was appointed Manchester United manager this summer.
According to Miguel Delaney of the ESPN FC, sources claim that the England striker would be the “primary transfer target” of Mourinho amid rumors he will replace incumbent Louis van Gaal on the helm of Old Trafford.
Since Chelsea fired him in December, Mourinho has been out of work but speculation about a move to Manchester United has been rife in the months since.
Delaney has expanded on the ties between Mourinho and a move to the Red Devils, where he has already researched how to strengthen the team.
He said: “If Mourinho gets the job he sees the high work rate and commitment of 22-year-old Kane as a core element of his attempt to revitalize United.”
In January, ESPN FC revealed he had put together a dossier detailing his analysis of United and how it would improve them.
Those plans include adding up to five new players from the first team — two defenders, a central midfielder, a strong right-winger, and a mobile striker.
Mourinho is said to have been highly inspired in January last year by Kane ‘s success in Tottenham ‘s 5-3 victory over his Chelsea side.
The defense of Manchester United was among the stingiest this term in England but, it is attacked lacked consistency, relying too much on the individual brilliance of the £36 million signings of last summer, Anthony Martial. Speaking to BT Sport, Mourinho has recently insisted that, despite a disappointing end to his second spell at Stamford Bridge, because of that experience, he is a better manager, per Fletch and Sav.
While Mourinho is away from the Premier League, Tottenham talisman Kane has continued to feature as one of its greatest stars, scoring 19 goals this season in his 30 league outings.
Bet365 highlighted his form after a sluggish start to the campaign and he is once again on track to become the Premier League’s most prolific England scorer.
