Scoring his third goal on Friday for Tottenham and boss Jose Mourinho is pleased to have the Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn in his squad. Jose Mourinho recognizes that Steven Bergwijn was not his, to begin with, choice alternative within the January window after joining Tottenham but is cheerful with the winger ‘s execution.
The Netherlands international opened the scoring in Friday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United to make it three goals in eight games for the London side. Mourinho is happy that the club went ahead with the deal as Bergwijn added an extra dimension to the attack on Spurs, even though the left-sided attacker was not his main target.
“He’s a good player. Congratulations to my club because he wasn’t my first option in the beginning-in the end it was a great decision. He’s a promising future prospect and we are more than pleased about that,” he said at Monday’s media conference pre-match
For the Premier League clash, Mourinho includes a near-fit squad to select against West Ham on Tuesday with Dele Alli coming back from suspension and Lucas Moura overcoming a thump. And the Portuguese appreciate the prospect of handling their favorite attacking line-up for the primary time since succeeding Mauricio Pochettino in November.
He said: “It’s just good news [on the injury front]. Lucas is back. Dele Alli is back from punishment and there have been no reports of injuries in the game against United. We haven’t lost any players and we’ve got two extra players that make my squad is good. It’s the first time since I arrived I’ve got all six players available for attack. It’s an issue we love. I’ve had the problem we hate for a long time. It’s very good news for us because we need everyone.”
At midweek London derby, Juan Foyth will miss out on a troublesome knee injury, but Mourinho denied claims that surgery is expected in the center-back.
Mourinho admits that only success over West Ham can do to keep the dreams of playing in the Champions League next season alive on his side.
