With the Napoli star now reportedly considering a move to Inter Milan, Chelsea could lose out on Dries Mertens this summer with Belgium international is out of contract this summer at Stadio San Paolo and has drawn interest from all over Europe ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
According to reports from Belgium earlier this month, Chelsea had allegedly made Mertens it’s No 1 target as they seek to attack reinforcements.
Inter Milan is still in the hunt for the experienced forward, but it was assumed that if he was unable to extend his deal in Naples, Mertens wasn’t keen to remain in Serie A.
Yet, according to Sky Sports Italia through Football Italia, the attitude seems to have changed with the singer now said to consider a move to the San Siro.
Inter’s terms were reportedly agreed with Napoli forward Dries Mertens, while Bayern Munich missed the deadline to buy Ivan Perisic. For Mertens, Inter overtook Chelsea and Corriere Della Sera are now reporting that they have formally signed a two-year contract worth € 5 m a season, with a €4 m sign-on bonus.

La Repubblica has gone one step further, writing how the Nerazzurri and the Belgian members reached a ‘common understanding’ this week.
The two newspapers agree that the arrival of the 32-year-old on a free transfer will in turn pave the way for Lautaro Martinez to join Barcelona. That’s because, alongside compatriot Romelu Lukaku, he will be slotted right into the Beneamat assault.
On the other hand, Inter will not be able to cash in on Perisic very soon.
That’s because Sky Sport Italia says Bayern missed the deadline to take up their €20 m option to transfer the winger’s loan permanently.
However, the broadcaster says that due to the coronavirus pandemic the German giants had been asking for more time.
