Currently, Inter Milan is in frequent contact with Man Utd regarding the possibility of retaining Alexis Sanchez for next season. The striker has been on loan at the San Siro since August and is supposed to sign a short-term extension for Inter to finish the remaining matches.
Sky Italia also notes that Inter will continue its loan to Sanchez until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
United charges a large proportion of his £400,000-per-week salary, and would undoubtedly want to cut that amount if they want Sanchez to play elsewhere for another year.
Sanchez looked to be contemplating a return to Old Trafford this summer and such a scenario seemed highly probable, but Inter is exploring every possibility of retaining his services.
Probably securing some kind of transfer fee for the 31-year-old seems out of the question and Sanchez isn’t going to give up on his extortionate pay easily.
He has hardly set the world back in Italy, scoring once in 16 appearances during an injury-hampered season. But Inter appreciates his contribution clearly and believes he can play a crucial role in the club.
Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio said last month: “We want everyone here to stay, including Alexis Sanchez. We are depending on him in the months ahead.”
