According to Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dean Henderson will at some point become the first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester United and England.
The 23-year-old is currently spending a second season on loan at Sheffield United, and impressed at his Premier League debut campaign.
Before linking up with the Blades, he still had to make a senior appearance for his parent club and had loan spells in Stockport County, Grimsby Town, and Shrewsbury Town.
Victory over Aston Villa on the return of the Premier League from the coronavirus-enforced break on Wednesday will also see them leapfrog United in the standings, with reports indicating that Henderson would be allowed to finish the campaign at Bramall Road.
His results for Chris Wilder ‘s side of this term were a key factor in the Blades staying in the seventh position in the table and their first year pushing for Champions League promotion back into the top-flight.
There is still to be decided where he will be playing next season, but Solskjaer has little doubt that Henderson will inevitably be the first choice at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer said, “Over the years, Dean has made some great choices, and has developed fantastically. We ‘re looking at that in terms of where he’ll be next season, but this hasn’t been decided yet. This season has proved to be a fantastic experience for him, he has done himself some favours with his performances, showing at some stage that he will be England No.1 and Man United No.1.”
Henderson’s route at Old Trafford is currently being blocked by David de Gea, who has been the United’s first-choice keeper since joining Atletico Madrid in 2011.
Last September, the Spaniard signed a new four-year contract at United, but Solskjaer is not concerned about the prospect of De Gea or Henderson feeling unhappy with their lot when the two keepers jostle for the No.1 jersey.
United will resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to Tottenham on Friday and bid for qualifying for the Champions League.
